All the parts you can switch on

Switch on when you need it

Phone System

The thing that answers your main number: a greeting, a menu, and an extension for everybody.

Still building. The switchboard answers and you set it up yourself: the greeting, your opening hours, each key on the menu and who it rings, everybody's extension, dial-by-name, and a mailbox for each person, each department and the business, with the messages listed and played where you read them. It runs on the phone connection your workspace already uses, and every call it puts through still lands on the customer's history. One thing is not built: a call it puts through rings the phone you already told us about, the way calling here already works, rather than ringing in this window. Answering in the window needs a couple of extra details from the company that gives you your number, and only some of them offer it at all. What is listed below is what this part will do when it is finished.

“Whoever is nearest picks up the main line, and then walks round the building asking whose call it is.”

Instead of: A phone system that knows nothing about your customers

Phone System is your switchboard. Somebody rings the number on your website and hears a greeting in your own words — or your own voice — and then the choices you set: press one for sales, two for service, or dial an extension if they know it. Each choice rings whoever you say, all at once or one after another, and only the people actually at their desks, so a caller is not held while four empty chairs ring out. Everybody gets their own extension and their own mailbox, departments get theirs, and there is a general one for everything else. Outside your opening hours it says so and takes a message instead. It uses the same phone connection the rest of your workspace already uses, and every call it puts through still lands on the customer's history exactly as it does today.

What you get

  • A greeting in your own words, or a recording in your own voice
  • A menu where each key is a department you named, ringing whoever you choose
  • Ring one person, ring everybody at once, or take it in turns
  • Only people who are actually at their desks are rung, so a caller is not held while empty chairs ring out
  • An extension for everybody, and a company directory callers can spell a name into
  • A mailbox for each person, each department, and one for the business
  • Opening hours in your own time zone, and a different greeting outside them
  • Every call still lands on the customer's history exactly as it does today
  • One price for your whole workspace, however many people answer the phone

Who tends to switch this on

  • Businesses whose main number is answered by whoever is nearest it
  • Teams that want a caller to reach the right department without being transferred twice
  • Anybody paying for a separate phone system that knows nothing about their customers
