Switch on when you need it
Crew Marketplace
Build your own pool of people for the hours you need them, and keep it.
Still building. People can join, keep one profile across the businesses they work for, be taken on, and go for the work you put out. Scheduling anybody, recording hours, paying people and reporting on any of it are not built. What is listed below is what this part will do when it is finished.
“We need forty people on Saturday and I am texting the same twelve names I texted last month.”
Instead of: A staffing agency’s hourly markup, and a spreadsheet of phone numbers
Crew Marketplace is for the work that needs forty people for six hours and nobody the following Tuesday. The people who do it usually work for several businesses, so they keep one account of their own, they decide what each business can see of them, and they carry their skills and certificates from one to the next. You get your own pool instead of renting somebody else's, and you pay the people in it directly — nothing is added on top of what they earn and nothing is taken out of it. Before anybody works for you, you make one decision the product will not make for you: whether you are hiring them or contracting with them for a defined piece of work. We show you what gets asked about where the work happens, keep what you chose and the reasons you gave, and then behave the way your answer says we should.
What you get
- One account per person, wherever they work: they sign in once and every business they work for is on the same account
- A profile that belongs to the worker, not to you — they choose which parts each business can see, and they can take it all back
- Your own list of the skills you hire for, and what each person says they can do and how long they have done it
- Their own hours, the dates they are away and their own limits, which they set and nobody else can change
- A worker's own area that shows them their work and nothing else of your business
- Two ways to take somebody on, side by side and neither of them the default, with what follows from each spelled out before you pick
- A record of what you chose, what was on screen when you chose it and the reasons you gave, which cannot be edited afterwards
- Work put out two ways — hours you are hiring for, or a defined job at a price — with what each one changes about the product spelled out before you choose
- A price you set for a job, or a price left to whoever takes it, because somebody pricing their own work is the clearest mark of being in business for themselves
- People go for what suits them and you offer it to one of them. Nobody is put on anything, and turning something down is free: nothing counts it, and there is nowhere for a count to live
- Your own record of each person: what they may work, what they are paid for it, your tags, one private note, and the things on your list before they start
- What you yourself say somebody can do, kept on your record and separate from what they say about themselves
- One price for your whole workspace, however many people you take on. Nothing is added to what a worker earns, nothing is taken out of it, and workers are never charged
Who tends to switch this on
- Venues, festivals and event companies who need dozens of people for a few hours
- Caterers, cleaners and contractors whose work comes in bursts
- Anyone who has been renting a pool of people and would rather build their own
